August ~ One Year!
April 3rd, 2006

We've turned the corner and the days are warm and sunny. Top down on the Peugeot and "lets hit the beach!"

We've spent the last month staying out of the wind and rain and much of my time taken up with work. Our spare time has been spent at the Daylesford Theatre preparing for the production of the latest play. Lori is now the "official" photographer with her pictures making their way into the local papers.

At left you can see we are about to leave for the beach. Lori is leaning on our "new" sign; "Fiddlesticks". Most of the houses in Bermuda are named. We (lower apartment) are actually named "Fiddlesticks Too". On the island of Bermuda, everyone knows where everyone lives and house numbers (as well as street names) are not used all that much. Very confusing to the "new" resident in town.

Lori was only using me to focus and dial in her camera for an important "shoot" of the theatrical expert that was flown in to judge the plays and the president of BMDS. On the wall behind me are some of the pictures Lori took and "Photoshopped" of the actors, directors, writers and production people involved with the show.

While Lori was kept busy with her camera, I was learning the "sound board" as part of the sound crew. "Mouse over" my image to the left and see me in action!

Of course I was also a "volunteer" for bar duty. Who wouldn't? I enjoyed my time mixing drinks, operating the cash machine and schmoozing with the customers. The cost of a beer is only $3 and a small bottle of wine $4 as are the highballs. A bottle of imported Perrier water is a buck! I'm scheduled to work the bar again this month. Soon I'll be able to add "mixologist" to my resume.

Photo Art!

The next few images are examples of Lori's picture taking and use of Adobe Photoshop to turn the imagery into works of art!

The image of the tall ship on the right was actually taken on a dull day. One of the tricks to learn is how to change the background of an intricate subject such as this with all the masts and rigging. Run your mouse pointer over the picture and see what the actual background was like. If you want to look closer at the detail of Lori's rendering, then "click" on it to get the blow-up version.

Below is a picture of an old building and dock at the West end of the Island, an area aptly named "Dockside".

Point Roberts "Typhoon"

So it looks like one doesn't have to travel to Bermuda to experience wild weather. Good Old Point Bob was subjected to what some called a "Typhoon." Those homeowners who have beachfront properties don't have to go looking for firewood this year. Of course we didn't take these pictures but had them sent to us within hours of the event via MSN from Lori's friend Lynne who now lives in Pt. Roberts. She named the picture below "Freed Willy!"

It may seem strange but the beaches here in Bermuda have not a stick of driftwood, even after a week of storms. Of course a beach may loose "all" of it's sand overnight!

More scenic imagery below. Remember, you can click on any of the pictures to see the full screen version. The left picture I took of Lori on a very windy but sunny day last month over in Somerset on a nameless beach by one of the many small parks that pop up every mile.

I posted the picture on the right as I liked the colour composition and is an example of the cemeteries that populate the grounds of every church and there are a lot of old churches in Bermuda! Note the finger pointing hand carved into the headstone with the inscription "GONE".

The Pink House image is just one of many examples of homes in Bermuda that we are collecting. Who knows, one day we may put together a book on architecture of the island.

Another book may be of just "doors". At left is an old door in a very old wall. Remember, some of the buildings date back to the 1600's.

So that's all folks! For this month anyways. Talk to you all again in May.
