Hello everyone from the beautiful 181-island archipelago that is Bermuda.

It seems that more than just "family" are viewing these pages. I would like to say that, although everyone who stumbles across this web site are welcome, the original intent of posting our thoughts here is to keep in touch with sons and daughters, brothers and sisters and good friends back home in British Columbia. Our life here is very full with learning all aspects of working and living here and there seems little time to write individually to all those whom are very dear to us. Thus this web site! Here, Lori can exhibit some of her photographic skills and I can let friends and family know what has transpired over the last month or so. In this way I'm hopeful we can share our experiences of living in Bermuda and be closer to those left behind.

If some of my postings are not quite factual or outright "wrong" regarding Bermuda, please e-mail me and let me know so that I can "correct" the error. I understand that there are actually some Bermudians viewing these pages. I shudder to think of their reactions to some of my statements. My e-mail is ross@rossgo.com

Old Lifeboat number 845 at "Nine Beaches"

Speaking of family, my brother and his wife are visiting in June. I suggested they might want to stay at "Nine Beaches" pictured at left. This is a new resort not too far from where we live. As you can see, it looks idyllic! Actually it's quite rustic but does come with room service, air conditioning and of course beautiful beaches complete with bar and restaurant.

I say this every posting but I'll say it again as it is important. Most of Lori's pictures here are "thumbnails", that is, they are a small version of a much larger image. Click on the image and you will see a full screen version of the same. This is very much worth the wait for the larger image to download to your computer as what we post here are the best of many digital images we've taken over the previous month.

As you can see, "Nine Beaches" seems a dream destination. Lori went there last month in their off season and found it deserted, so walked around taking pictures. Looks like they have all the beach toys to experience the crystal clear waters of all the nine beaches that make up the resort.

We often motor into this area in Mark's boat to have lunch. Off shore is a shipwreck which is partially above water and is a favorite spot for SCUBA divers. Further out yet are some pretty good fishing spots.

So what does a bunch of people in the middle of a desert on camels have to do with Bermuda? Well Lori and I are not the only members of the Goodwin family to travel this year.

There is a full solar eclipse only very rarely and when it happens, as it did last month, those who are into seeing it perfectly in all it's glory must travel to the exact position on earth. This time it happened to be Egypt! So my brother and a group of his fellow "star gazers" traveled to the land of pyramids. He also took along his better half Lisa and Fraser (one of my sons) to experience a trip of a lifetime.

Seen at left is the "Diamond Ring" as they call it. The sun in full solar eclipse as seen from the perfect vantage point. The full screen version is just a click away... compliments of Randy Goodwin.

Below are, from left to right; my son Fraser, my sister-in-law Lisa and brother Randy.

I don't know Dennis and haven't checked out his hide-a-way yet, but Lori liked the sign. I hear "Dennis" specializes in exotic seafood. Next visitors we get we'll have to go "Down de Hill" and try his turtle soup!

More images for Lori's "Windows and Doors of Bermuda" album. This lovely old window and shutter arrangement to the left is on a building in St. Georges. The building was also full of antique tools and furniture.

At right is a beautiful example of Bermudian architecture. The colours of pastel pink with green trim and blue doors are typical of the colorful style of many homes on the island.

You'll notice that almost all buildings have functional shutters. These are not just decorative! You'll also note that most buildings are made of stone or brick and cement. Certainly the roofs are all mortar so as not to blow off in the next gale or hurricane.

Lori found this house just behind Tynes Bay. Unlike most of the buildings here, this one is in need of a pressure washer and paintbrush.
Outside patio of Tom Moore's Tavern

Above is an interesting shot of the patio at Tom Moore's Tavern (est. 1600s).

Incredible is the word for the cave that Lori discovered behind the tavern. She went back a few days later with her tripod to capture the image to your right. The unbelievable turquoise water in the pool is so clear, that you can easily see the bottom through 55 feet of water. These secret doorways lead to over 150 underwater caves in Bermuda. In a future posting I'll get into more detail on this fascinating feature of the islands.

So what have we been doing over the last month? Well the vast majority of my time has been spent at Tynes Bay. I won't go into detail as it's not all that interesting. Dragging myself home after 12 hours at the incinerator, often my only desire is sleep.

Lori, on the other hand, is leading an exciting life as a photographer. Now officially a graduate of the prestigious "New York Institute of Photography" she is also the official photographer for BMDS and is giving lessons in the art of digital photography to friends. Very soon she will be hosting her Mom and Dad and son Chase who are arriving this month.

She also makes everything I do here "worth while".
